v.18
Tuning the temperament from F3 to F4 from an A4 at 440Hz +/- 1 cent.
- Tune F3 to F4.*
- Play all notes from C#3 to E3 and F3 to F4 each three times hard.
- Play them all again mp, 3 seconds each.
- Play chromatic M3s, C#3F3 to C#4F4, at least 2 seconds each.
- Play chromatic M6s from C#3A#3 to G#3F4.
- Play the P4’s from F3-A#3 to C4-F4.
(The notes from C#3 to E3 inclusive are just check notes; they don’t need to be tuned, but they need to be clean and produce useful beat speeds; not too fast, not too slow.)
You will be marked on the progression of the M3s and the size of the P4 calculated by the difference of the M3/M6 test.
*After you tune all the notes, you need to check all the intervals.
Mark Cerisano Tuning System method:
Play chromatic P5, and P4.
Look for intervals that stick out; any fourth or fifth that is too noisy.
Check each note of the offending interval – you only need to check the way it was originally tuned if you use the Mark Cerisano Tuning System – otherwise you’ve got to use a ton of different tests on each note, looking for permission to move one of the interval notes so you fix the offending interval. Not efficient. Use the Mark Cerisano Tuning System.
