ETD Unit 4

V.1

After finishing units 1 to 3, you will be asked to tune a piano for a qualified concert piano technician.

They do not care how you tuned the piano. They will listen to the tuning and give their honest opinion on how good it was by grading you on levels 1 to 4.

LEVEL 1

If they believe your tuning is so bad that you should not be allowed to tune pianos for money, they will give you a Level 1 grading.

LEVEL 2

If they feel your tuning is at a minimal level that could please non-critical customers like non-musicians, they will give you a Level 2 grading.

LEVEL 3 – Minimum Acceptable Level

If they feel your tuning could please professional musicians and concert halls, but they have some concerns about it, like some unisons were not clean enough or it took you too long, they will give you a Level 3 grading.

LEVEL 4

If they feel your tuning could please professional musicians and concert halls and they have no concerns. I.e. they would use you to replace them if they couldn’t do a concert tuning, they will give you a Level 4 grading.
